My literary sausage party
This morning I took a photo of all the books on my upcoming reading stack to post to instagram. Behold my literary acumen, world! As I was posting the photo I realized what a dick I was. Every single book on that stack was written by a dude. A complete sausage fest. Good sausages to be fair! James Baldwin. Denis Johnson. George Saunders. But c’mon.
To be fair I’ve read my fair share of women this year, so I’m not a total asshole, but c’mon. You stack ten books books and not one is by a woman? Pretty fucking shameful.
So I asked for suggestions. Got an amazing list of women authors. Wanted to share them here. Links are to Amazon, because I’m lazy. But if you have a local bookstore obviously get them there.
Here are some of the suggestions that stood out. Obviously I know nothing about these books. But that was the problem, right?
